1981 Uyehara Super Comp RED Restore/Rebuild

I'm new to this site and wanted to share one of the projects I'm working on. In 2008 I bought this dragster from some fellas in a nearby town. The car was pretty outdated. Over the last 5 1/2 years I've been slowly updating everything on this car. Fuel system, roll cage update, cooling system, gauges, some wiring, pretty much anything that has to be SFI approved has been replaced. I'm coming to a close with it and want to get it to the track soon. I've had a lot of questions about this build over the years and had never considered trying a forum.

My current challenge is getting the correct parachute cable mount for the back of the car. Do most of you custom make a cable mount for the back of your dragsters? Mine is tied to the chassis in front of the rear end but is pretty much hanging from the chute past that. I'm also working on mounting my battery per NHRA standards. That part seems to be pretty straight forward.

Any feedback is appreciated!

The weekend I brought it home

Can't help with the cable mount, but my other hobby is digital photography and I had a look at your Flickr pages. Lots of nice stuff. I have photos of some of those cars from the Northwest Nationals up here in Washington. Most of what I like to shoot are landscapes and you have some very nice shots. Have fun with the dragster.

See McKinney Race cars:

PARACHUTE CABLES - 18'

This cable is 18' long, with a single solid wire, and can be trimmed to fit. One end is finished with a .250 diameter grooved 10/32 male thread. The black housing measures .200 diameter, the cable measures .054 diameter. Use M-90-B aluminum clamp to mount and M-116 Steel Female Clevis or M-116-A Aluminum Female Clevis to attach to the lever. Typically used for parachute cables on funny car and top fuel applications. See M-94, M-94-12, M-94D-S, or M-94D-L for levers.

Bill, thanks. The cable is mounted in the car but, what I was looking at is the rear, like in your first picture. The way I read the rules was that had to be mounted within a certain distance of the chute. Right now mine is clamped to the chassis pretty far in front of the chute. I think I'll give your style a try.

About the battery. My car is old so the battery is mounted behind the rear end. I have a battery box already but the battery just sits in it and was never fastened to the box. According to the rules I have to secure the battery to the frame, or frame assembly, with 3/8" bolts. Most batteries leave no room on either side to put a bolted tie down over the battery.

I'd love to see what others are doing. I'll send you an email. Thanks
