Trailer Thoughts.
Doing this for the sake of research and a segment.. Open Trailer vs Enclosed. I want all your thoughts positive and negative. advertising and not advertising.. DOT seeing your race car and them not seeing it. Have at it..

Re: Trailer Thoughts.
For us it was scary to have such a large investment open for all to see. The weather was another issue, and always worried about damage to the car while being exposed to the elements. The enclosed offered us and the car being out of the weather. We went from a 18' steel floor open to a 48' with living quarters. It is so nice to get in the heated or cooled trailer, for my wife having our own bathroom is a plus. The enclosed serves as a garage while at home or at the track. It's an investment, and makes being at the track when it's 40 deg or colder or above 90 enjoyable. Financially a $2500 used open to a used $20,000+ enclosed we would never go back to the open. You also have to take into account the vehicle required to safely tow with.

Re: Trailer Thoughts.
Ordered my first Goldrush a week after watching a kid throw a rock at my Candy Apple Red Vette on our open trailer. Security is no one really knows what is in the trailer unless they have followed you around. Just a lot of money if you are not out racing often or towing a lot. I went back to an open as I am now storing the trailer alot more than using it.

Re: Trailer Thoughts.
When we first started out we had our S/Street Camaro on an open trailer. It was fine, but it wasnt a showpiece, it was a "budget racer". The biggest issue is its exposed to the elements and road debris. Once we had the Studebaker built, we went to an enclosed. If you have the room, and can afford it, I would say enclosed. Your tools and car are protected.
You also gain space in your tow vehicle, 'cause now you carry tools/equipment in the trailer. |

How much do you think of your race car?

Re: Trailer Thoughts.
Two years ago I bought a 24' enclosed for the reasons explained above--security, protection from the elements, etc. I still have the open trailer and it does give about 13 mpg vs. 11 for the enclosed (empty or filled, the frontal area is probably the culprit). I will never choose the open again for a car that has any value.

Re: Trailer Thoughts.
We first bought a open trailer because of cost. Still have it for short runs around town or to the race shop. Then got a Haulmark 24' Thrifty Hauler. Used it for 4 years and got a loaded 28' Pace. Used it for 6 years. Sold both of them for more than we paid. Just ordered a 38' Vintage Outlaw gooseneck with all the goodies. Hopefully we finally got to a size that will last us forever. I doubt if we will be able to sell this one for more than we paid but you never know.
