351C questions

Valve seats.....when installing new seats can you blend in the ridge in the casting at the bottom of the seat?

Is the Quick Fuel SSR-780-VS an acceptable replacement for the D0ZF 9310-Z Holley 4653?

Can an adjuster be installed on the pushrod side of the rocker arm

Can floor mounted clutch linkage be installed?

Can the block be machined for 42/46 lifter phasing?

Thanks

anybody?

The way I read the rules the carb is the same size so should be ok.

One more question....

Is a carb spacer legal?

Re: 351C questions

Bill,

Valve seats? Technically - No. Actually it depends on how they're installed and the valve job finished. Some ways are legal, some aren't, but these days almost anything passes I guess.

Quick Fuel Carb? YES it is legal, but the secondary idle screws must be removed and the circut blocked.

Pushrod side adjusters? Why? Roller rockers are allowed now.

Floor mounted clutch? NO!

Lifter bore mods? NO, but I'd like to see them check it.

Carb spacer? NO. You can only use two factory type gaskets.

I think all that is correct. If not, I'm sure someone will help out.

without a girdle and spring pressure I run they flex to much...this is what I want to use

the 42/46 lifter angle matches the heads better than inline lifters...the valvetrain geo isn't even close to where it needs to be, its the only way to get these canted valve motors to run up top....I don't see where it says I can't do it

Re: 351C questions

Bill,

You're running STOCK. Of course the 42/46 lifter bores are better, but how STOCK would they be. The whole problem we have today with Stock Elim is that everybody wants to deviate from the rules to give THEMSELVES an advantage.

We run a Boss 351 Stocker, so we know what can be done to make them work, but I read the part in the rule book where it says, "unless optional performance equipment or a performance modification is specificall permitted by this rulebook, it is prohibited", so we just do with what they allow. The reason I said I'd like to see somebody check the lifter bores is because it's already being done and I think the culprits should be disqualified for doing so. So just because it doesn't say YOU CAN'T, don't assume that YOU CAN.

You can download the NHRA rulebook and look up specs from the NHRA competition icon on this site. It might help to answer future questions as well as show you the answers to the questions you've already asked.

I didn't read your rocker question closely enough; I thought you were referring to adjustable pushrods.

Good luck with your Cleveland project.

Jerry

If you are using a hydraulic lifter cam these may be the rocker arms you have to use. The rules state that you must use pedestal mount rockers and as it is similar to the Oldsmobile this type of rocker arm is what we must use.

Re: 351C questions

carb is fine and even comes supplied with lead balls to block off secondary idle screws.
