tire speed rate ?

two years ago, I bought a pair of Remington tires for the front of my '56. I can not find a speed rating on them. these came from a warehouse which has a big turn-over, so they should not have been to old.
any ideas?

Rod --look at TIRERACK.com-- they have a chart of speed ratings for those tires ---

I have that chart, it is that there is NO letter on the tire. unless it is in some of the small print.

Re: tire speed rate ?

The standard has the "speed rating" letter in the actual tire size...

example....205/70SR-15.....the "s" is the speed rating in this case 112 mph.....a T is 118 ,H is 130, V is 150 and Z is over 150

If there is no letter in this position the tire technically has a rating below 100 mph........

This applies to radial street tires and not drag tires and the old bias plies didn't really have a speed rating per se.....

Re: tire speed rate ?

100 is OK. now I wonder how much safety factor they build in to that rating?
racing 1/8 will never be a problem. and in the 1/4, I probably will get 105 mph.
more thoughts?

Keep an eye out for ozone cracking anywhere in the rubber of the tire....replace them if you see any....also never run a tire that has any repairs done to it, it's structural integrity has been compromised for any racing purposes.....

Re: tire speed rate ?

Remington in it's past was made by Dunlop. They were very similar to Dunlop Qualifiers. Remington had the XT 120.
They should be fine for what you are doing. We used them quite a bit when I was a kid.
