Re: 1969 Chevrolet
Paul, Wasn't the full-sized 396-265 shown on the car as a 400ci. 2 bbl. ? (My grandfather had a gold '69 4 door Bel Air with this combo.)

I don't remember the front fender 'emblem', but I think in 1969 it still was '396' I do remember seeing a few Biscaynes 'Sedan/Post Car' with '4' Tail-Lights in the Rear Bumper, with the 396/265 HP ~ 2-Barrel. 396/265 HP 'L-66' Another 'Odd-Ball' combination. 1969 NHRA Class {14.00 to 14.99 Wt/Hp} = M/S or M/SA http://ts3.mm.bing.net/th?id=H.48105...57194&pid=15.1 |
Re: 1969 Chevrolet
Of course it was a long , long time ago. Yes it had "396" badges above the fender amber reflectors, but I thought I remember the air cleaner lid stating "400".

Re: 1969 Chevrolet
Just out of curiosity the '69 Camaro Z/28 302 cross ram 343hp was a over the counter dealer option is not in the classification guide because it's just that?

The Air Cleaner Decal for 1969. https://www.bobschevelleparts.com/fi...24bf1353f1.jpg Very popular for Town Official Cars with the 4-Door Sedan in both the 'Biscayne' or 'Bel Air',,,,,,,and Mid-West Farmers with the Impala 'Hardtop'. http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-kSvEckA3Kb...+hardtop+b.jpg |

Re: 1969 Chevrolet
I remember seeing a 1969 Impala 'For Sale' in 1973 - with a '396' Emblem on the front fender.
Beautiful 'Garnet Red' with Rally Wheels, black interior w/Bucket Seats and Console with the Slap-Stick Automatic. Even had 'Dual-Exhaust'. It sounded nice too. Popped the hood, and 'Wham'............... 'a 2-Barrel'. http://ts3.mm.bing.net/th?id=H.48070...48858&pid=15.1 |
Re: 1969 Chevrolet
A friend of mine bought a 396 2 barrel new in 1969. The "farmer" Impala could have been a twin. Not very good on gas as I remember.
He pulled the radiator cap when it was hot, had on a polyester jacket, it melted to his arms, nice 2nd degree burns, took awhile for him to heal. #5457 Curt Rees |
Re: 1969 Chevrolet
My grandfather love to Trout fish and leave northern Iowa in the winter. Pulled a heavy dual axle camper with a 327 '64 Bel Air. He needed a new Chevy in '69 I remember he wanted a bigger camper so a big block was in order. I also remember he wasn't happy with the fuel economy when towing with it. It left in '73 for a C10 then a new bigger camper.
