Roadster in S/ST?
Are they still allowed I ask because I have an older car that was a convertible and want to build a roadster. Do they require a Tonneau cover on all open door type cars? What is the weight for S/ST and Hot/Rod?
Thanks! |
Re: Roadster in S/ST?
After looking at the NHRA rules a key sentence would be convertibles & cars that came with removable tops may run without tops.
I also find: Cars without tops do not require working doors. I think the way it is worded it does not allow a car like the late mod vettes built as topless roadsters. |
Re: Roadster in S/ST?
I know to run my ST series you must working doors, factory roof, windows , more less a real car, not a funny car bodies roadster or a real roadster.

Re: Roadster in S/ST?
Yes, you can run a roadster in S/ST. I remember one a few years back in D1, it was a 27 ford roadster. As long as its left hand steer and makes the 2800# min.
I also remember a 68-72 stock style Vette that ran without its hardtop. |
Re: Roadster in S/ST?
Bob Albert # BA1927
He had the car for sale here on Class Racer and listed as S/G S/ST and I called him on it. He said they had won a D-1 Pts meet with it. By the NHRA rules it doesn't need doors because it was a car that came without a top. 1927 Fords did not have tops. Google 1927 Ford and follow the rules. See this line out of the NHRA rules -- Cars without tops do not require working doors. Copy out of NHRA Rules BODY Must be full-bodied car. Coupes, sedans, street roadsters, vans, pickups, sports cars, and panel trucks permitted. Fiberglass bodies permitted. Door hinges on any lift-off door must have safety pins or locks. Cars with top and windshield must have two driver exits. Convertibles and cars that came with removable tops may run Section 7, page 4 Super Street Super Street Section 7, page 5 without top. Tops may be chopped. Cars without tops do not require working doors. Bodies may be channeled or sectioned. Street roadsters, sports cars, and convertibles may remove top and windshield. As for the car that was a convertable it can run with the top removed or down. |
Re: Roadster in S/ST?
If I do This car it will be different!
Thanks! |
Re: Roadster in S/ST?
I did it in nhra div one with a vette roadster for a few years. body was built in 97 and looked like a 61/62 vette. theres no reason you couldn't use a late model vette. The hardest part is making legal weight.

Re: Roadster in S/ST?
SST1226 I like your car mine will be a little older 1964 and a Ford not a Mustang!
I like the factory windshield look is it mandatory or can you not have one and use a small one like on the roadsters now? Does the passenger compartment have to be covered also? Sorry for all the questions but want answers from people that have ran them! I saw a 66 Chevy 2 that was converted it looked great also a few 57 Chevy's ! Any pics of cars please post. Thanks! |
