rear gear ratio
Hey guys i need i little help with gear selection for running superstreet,i have a 5.67 gear in my car now and the engine revs up to 8100 rpm in the 1/4 and my speed is about 129, but my engine peaked hp is at 7600 to 7700 rpm on the dyno should i go with a 5.43 to lower the rpm and increase the mph or leave it as is to run superstreet.

Re: rear gear ratio
If it was my car, I would change the gear. I'm assuming you are running a small block with that much gear. In my super gas car, I run a 4.10 and have been thinking of trying a 3.89

Re: rear gear ratio
It is a ford v-6 that i have been running in superstreet a little at 2450 lbs.,but i have been running the 5.67 gear and was just wondering if the trend is to get the mph up as much as possible and still keep the engine in are above peak hp.Thanks

Re: rear gear ratio
Yep a V-6 can run fast. All it takes is HP.
It is not Super Street and it is a little heavier than 2,000 lbs and it is limited to a 750 carb. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eZPI6eCN8pE"]968et143mph - YouTube[/ame] The rear gear is: 6.33 In SS/DS it runs @ 3200 lbs |
Re: rear gear ratio
The sweet sound of a v-6 making power,to bad they do'nt make any more parts for them. What kind of power are you making and at what rpm. With a 750 carb. and 6.33 gear must be pretty high.

Re: rear gear ratio
5.43 will only kill 200 rpm. 5.14 or a 5.29 should put you where you want to be.
