Pros breaking rules
 

Since there is so much talk about NHRA enforcing rules these days, especially in the sportsman ranks, I thought I would comment on something that I noticed the rare times I actually watch the pros on TV. Why is it that Pro Stock crew members are permitted to stand on both sides of the car with their legs or hips touching the quarter panel during the burnout?

I actually kinda like P/S so I won't single them out. What's up with T/F and F/C crew members pushing cars right before they burn out? Is that legal?

SECTION 2 - RACE PROCEDURES

BURNOUTS
All pre-race burnouts are restricted to designated areas, using water only. If a contestant’s vehicle should break on a burnout and cannot back up or be pushed back, it is not permitted to turn on the track and drive back to the starting line. Crossing the centerline during a burnout is not a disqualification. Fire burnouts are strictly prohibited. No person is permitted to hold or touch cars during burnouts.

Any thoughts?

They allow it sometime to keep the cars tracking straight. To lay rubber down.

I have seen this and wondered the same thing. Rulebook is clear as can be on this subject.

You bring up some very good points.When I was at Topeka this year,I was on the starting line and couldn't believe Pro Stockers were allowed to have a crew member on each side in the water box right up against the car.

I guess it has been going on for awhile,but I don't watch the Pro's that closely anymore.

I really think it looks like an accident waiting to happen.

Pushing the Fuel Cars into the water box for the burnout is being done for clutch wear and to keep from building heat in the clutch. Keep in mind If you take your foot off the clutch in a fuel car - it won't move - (if it's set up right). Is pushing it necessary? or is it a little show boating? - I Don't know - But it is "before" the burn out. JB

Don't know about the fuel cars, but it really surprised me seeing the Pro Stock crewmen holding the cars in the water. Reminds me of the "good old days" of holding onto the door handles to keep a car straight in the "bleach box" LOL. Definitely NOT safe!!

I know why the fuel cars are pushed but, I am surprised that it's allowed. I hope it never happens but, what if a crew members shirt gets caught in the rear spoiler? Of course the driver can't see behind him/her and does their normal burnout with the crew member still attached.

I always wondered why the pro cars get to run such small contingency decals while we get the billboard sized one that take up so much space?
