Interesting Fact
I went to my Lions Club meeting last nite and we had a GUEST SPEAKER as we some times do. It was the current Treasurer of my state. He went on and talked about pension problems, funding for social agencies blah blah. One interesting fact he came up with is MY STATE has more people on welfare than people employed. He went on to say that there currently are 11 states that are in the same situation... More people on welfare than employed!!!! And to make matters worse its increasing nationwide---SCARY!!!! Currently according to him these states make up the eleven

Re: Interesting Fact
Ask Ken for permission to join the "other" lounge or simply google the Forbes article for "death spiral states".

Re: Interesting Fact
Thanks FED, what state do you live in?
I am in New York. Long Island. Lots of welfare also here, always has been w every group seeking handouts and programs, supported by local news12 and paper, all connected. Bad news sells news. I see what I wrote in the vacation time thread fits here too. So many forms of welfare out there. Thanks for the Forbes article I just read. On a better note, this is not political, just informatory. Thanks for the current update of our still great country. Best to you and yours, Chris. freedom isn't free, taking on a new meaning every day........... |

Re: Interesting Fact
It appears the GUEAT SPEAKER was given some bad info. As Jim mentioned you can get thr true story from the Forbes article. What it basically states is these 11 states have more takers than makers. A maker is a private sector worker and a taker is not only someone on welfare but anyone that draws a check from the state, be it a paycheck, pension, medicaid or welfare. Not to say that these states ane not in trouble but not just from people on welfare. Overall Govt spending is the problem.
