Need more power towing
I have a 92 chevy ext. cab pickup 2500 series, has a 454 in it, 373 rearend, automatic. I tow a 22 ft. enclosed car trailer. It is really struggling going up hills anymore, has 57,000 original miles on it. Any ideas to help without going into the motor.

Re: Need more power towing
i believe it's Ed Wright you want to talk to. he can upgrade the computer and get some extra ponies and torque for towing, i will be sending him mine out of the motor home soon, (1999 454) from what he told me, it was well worth it

Re: Need more power towing
What Keith said-the ecm in that thing is programmed very poorly for power. I had a 90 suburban 454 and a different program made it a new truck! A LOT of lost torque in that factory program.

Re: Need more power towing
Terry, our weezed out old 350 would pull what you have easy. Something is amiss. I would suggest starting with a new fuel filter and general tune up. If the fuel filter is getting restricted, it will kill the power.

Re: Need more power towing
Yeah, the truck dont miss or cut out just does not have the power for pulling up all those hills going to Earlville,If i see a hill coming up I will get it up to 70 so the time i get to the top of the hill I am doing about 45 or 50.

Re: Need more power towing
Does the service eng. light come on?, on my sub. the light would stay on for a couple of min. had no power, scanned it, replaced the o2 sensor, fuel filter, ran like new after that. gsa612
