Re: why dq
This was the first real race motor I built for the car. I was running out of time trying to get the motor put together for the race. I did check the valve size, cam lift, bore, stroke, carb, etc, etc. etc. The only thing I didn't check was the cc on the combustion chamber,as I don't have a burret. As it was, I first fired the motor on monday nite after work and left wednesday after work. Seated the rings on the first pass, or maybe the second pass. I had problems with the car all weekend. I finally figured out what the problem was... Carb !!!! gonna need a new one by the way. I decided to go after the record as it is one of the things I always wanted to do when I started racing stock. When the motor was tore down everything checked good, actually better than good, except the CC in the combustion chamber. It was 1.5 cc too small. When I talked to the gentleman that did the heads for me, we found out a two numbers got transposed. It happens, it was an honest oversight. I'm NOT mad at him, I still respect him and have no hard/bad feelings towards him. 1.5 cc isn't gonna make much of a difference on my turbo motor, but the rules are the rules. This is my fault, as I was the one that bolted the heads on the motor and put the motor into the car !! I thanked the Tech Guys Ben and Pat, and told them I was sorry for wasting their time, and would not have gone after the record knowing the issue with the heads. I have always prided myself on being honest, above board, with integrity and morals. I think those that know me would say that I'm not the kind of person to try and cheat or sneak something by and get away with it. I won't even try to use something marginal. Am I disappointed, yes, but more than anything I'm embarrassed that I made myself look like I was trying to cheat. Depending on what NHRA decides to do, I will come back with a motor completely apart, let them check it and assemble it right in front of them, there in the pits if I need to. There are a few things that I still want to accomplish in stock eliminator, if I get to do them, great, if not, it's been an awesome experience, and I want to thank all of you for the fun !! Don't worry Marty, your record is still ok !!! :)
