Issues with the tech dept

The stocker in the wrong class at Maple Grove brings up a subject that should be addressed. First it should be said that there was no harm done at the race. It was just a mistake and the tech dept did a good job under the conditions. That being said.....

Does anyone remember how you used to be teched in at a big event? After your car was inspected you were instructed to walk over and see Bruce (or someone else) to get the weight sticker. That's right, NHRA at one time had enough techmen inspecting Stock and S/S that they could actually look up your combination in the classguide. They would determine which body style you were claiming, figure the class and then give you your weight sticker. How long has it been since that procedure was followed? Evidently too long.

Another thing, with todays shortage of knowledgeable techmen, your Stocker or S/S'er may get teched by a S/G techman. Your seatbelts maybe correct but are you in the proper class? Come on NHRA, take the time to check all the cars for correct class every once in a while.

Unfortunately there aren't many tech officials who understand Stock and Super Stock anymore. Hopefully with all of these new cars coming into both categories, it will force the NHRA to train more officials who understand the classification guide.

Unfortunately you are correct and this will be the true slow death of s/ss. All other complaints are mute if there is nobody to correctly classify a car. It's an old GJ song. "Who's Gonna Fill Their Shoe's". No class tech's no class and that's a fact.

Maybe it's something like...."better enjoy it while you can"....that being...the current state of class racing....

After Ohio BS the Firebird/Camaro should had been with a P/W factor of 8.20. NHRA needs to relook at the PW and make a adjustment. Put the cars in the RIGHT P/W factor.
Never should have came out 7.99. Just saying
