East Coast Drag Times Hall of Fame Reunion
It is one month away (October 19, 20, 21) from the East Coast Drag Times Hall of Fame Reunion in Henderson, NC. Thousands of classic cars, truck, street rod, etc. in the car show. Old race cars, restored and un-restored and hundreds of "old racer". The old racers are there to see friends and racers that they either have not seen since last year or maybe not seen in 30 or 40 years ( we all have name tags so we know who each other is, time has change some of us). If you were not a racer just a Drag Racing Fan you will see racers and cars that you will remember from up and down the east coast.
If you have never attended this event, go to the web site, look at the videos from previous years and plan to attend. We can't charge up your senses for burning rubber but we can the sights, sound and smell of racing fuel and burning nitro. Sunday at the Hall of Fame induction ceremonies there are lots of old scrap books that racers and their families have on display for you to look through. As you go up I-85 at Exit for NC 39 look for the large sign now in place "Future Site of the East Coast Drag Times Hall of Fame. Yes we are getting ever closer. If you want more information contact me here or Contact Nancy Wilson, (Ms Zip) at Vance County Tourism. |

Here's the link...it looks like it's going to be a good show.

Re: East Coast Drag Times Hall of Fame Reunion
Picked up Akron Arlen Vanke at the airport yesterday. The ride to Henderson, NC was enjoyable. The first old racer Arlen mentioned was Melvin Yow. He commented that "back in the day" he was a serious racer in Super Stock/Pro Stock. He also commented about his times when he came to Piedmont and Person County for match races with the "Southern" racers.
On I-85, about 5 miles from Henderson, we came up on a Don Grotheer Cuda being pulled on an open trailer. Now do you think we really got some nostalgia conversation going. Got to Henderson and the motel lots were beginning to fill. Parking lot at the Walmart looked like the pits at a race track. The Walmart is adjacent to three of the host motels. Going to get the race car loaded and off to the barbeque at Saterwhite Point, then racing tonight at Roxboro Motorsports Park, "Person County dragway" |

Re: East Coast Drag Times Hall of Fame Reunion
Okay, the 11 th year of the East Coast Drag Times Hall of Fame Reunion is in the record books. This was what appears right now as being the largest show ever. Number of cars, both old race cars and classics, the number of old racers and the number of spectators appears to be up from previous year.
There were cars there that have been in previous years; however, there were cars and drivers who have never been there before and some which more than likely will never appear again. I arrived down town at 5:15 am on Saturday and the lot was already filling with cars. At about 1;30 pm we were watching the Spectator crowd and I commented I would like to get paid one nickel for every photograph that was taken of the Stock Super Stock/Pro Stock cars on the street Saturday. It was incredible to see all those cars in one place. There were 5 Motown Missle cars on the property, including on that was on a rotisery. 5 men lifted this car body off of a trailer and attached it to the display frame. Caution was "don't lift it by the fenders" Curt I hope that you and your dad enjoyed your time there and hope that you got a chance to see everything that this show has to offer. Hope that you got the opportunity to talk with some of the guys and gals that you have heard about and read about from the history of drag racing. Even though we have been at Kinston Dragway together some times, I was glad to see you there. I had the occasion to be called to the Event Registration Table several times during the event by some very nice people who had read my posts and came to the event. Classracer was well represented by a Station Wagon with a "Classracer" decal on the front fender. I will post some photos as soon a I have them downloaded. |
