NYC Bans Big, Sugary Drinks at Eateries, Theaters
Explain this one ---------
___________________________________________ NEW YORK (AP) 9/13/2012 - New York City's health board has passed a rule banning super-sized, sugary drinks at restaurants, concession stands and other eateries. The regulation passed Thursday puts a 16-ounce size limit on cups and bottles of non-diet soda, sweetened teas and other calorie-packed beverages. The ban will apply in fast-food joints, movie houses and Broadway theaters, workplace cafeterias and most other places selling prepared food. It doesn't cover supermarkets or most convenience stores. City health officials say the ban is necessary to combat a deadly obesity epidemic. The restaurant and beverage industries have assailed the plan as misguided. They say the city's health experts are exaggerating the role sugary beverages have played in making Americans fat. Some New Yorkers have also ridiculed the rule as a gross government intrusion. |

Explain without tiptoeing into the politics? Not likely but I find it interesting that people could still buy the "big gulp", just not everywhere. So the government can dictate which merchants are ok to sell them? Didn't realize that was government's role when public safety wasn't involved.

Re: NYC Bans Big, Sugary Drinks at Eateries, Theaters
Oh Yes, that will work. The soda that the fatties of the world drink will be reduced by..... NOTHING! They will just order two.
And if the Theaters, etc. had any sense, they would start a 2 for 1 and charge the same as they used to for 32 oz and provide two 16 oz drinks. Nothing will stop the obesity epidemic, until people stop eating as much. So, is "portion control" next on Bloomberg's agenda? David The New Hemi Guy |

This is a test. Lets see how far we can over reach our power....when they push back, well think we went too far. This sort of thing is going on most every where, just doesn't get in the news.

Re: NYC Bans Big, Sugary Drinks at Eateries, Theaters
Just plain stupid. How about we make cigarettes a half inch shorter? Or instead of selling sugar (in supermarkets) in 4 pound bags, restrict the size to 2 pounds. How about mandating that tortillas be half the size............But did you notice that they did not restrict the size of alcoholic beverages...............????????????/ so let them get drunk and drive home. What about Skittles, M&M's, Snickers, etc..........cut them in half too...
Someone elected these morons. |

I think Taco Bell is already making the tacos a whole lot smaller than they look in the pictures.

NYC doesn't want anyone on a sugar high; that might be dangerous. OTOH, getting high on drugs, that is OK, just stop at any street corner for your high. Next we will see the courts imposing heavier sentences for selling sugar cubes than for heroin.
