NHRA set to bring Full Throttle series to N.H.

NHRA officials will announce Wednesday at Boston’s Old City Hall it will sanction an event at New England Dragway in Epping, N.H., adding to its 2013 NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series schedule.

“It’s the drag racing equivalent to a [Sprint] Cup race for NASCAR,’’ said Joe Lombardo, general manager of New England Dragway. “It is the biggest drag racing event in the country, and the biggest drag racing series in the country. There’s no one that even comes close to them.

“The cars that they have and the people that they have like John Force and his kids, and Tony Schumacher and his crew, they’re all pretty well recognized. Everybody is familiar with them. Even if they’re only slightly familiar with drag racing, they’ll know the stars who will come out to take part in the Full Throttle Drag Racing Series.’’

Although the NHRA has yet to finalize its schedule, it is expected to juggle its June lineup of races in Englishtown, N.J., Bristol, Tenn., and Chicago, to accommodate an event at New England Dragway June 20-23.

“We do know that the event will work because last year we held a [Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series] divisional race, which is the next level down from a Full Throttle event,’’ said Lombardo, who indicated his track signed an agreement with the NHRA to host Full Throttle events over the next 10 years.

“We had the highest attendance [4,500 people] of any inaugural divisional race and our car count was very good, we had about 400 cars,’’ he said. “So we’re very excited about getting started.’’

Every Division 1 racer needs to contact Dave Mohn asap and request that they have the points race the following weekend!!! Otherwise, they should expect low car counts for both races.

I would guess due to the distance for some racers to travel. I went to Lebanon valley in 1997 to watch, it was about 525 miles one way. I would guess Epping is another 150-200 miles further, at 700 miles, it is barely closer for me than Atlanta would be.

What Bryan says makes sense, to get to race two weekends in a row, for those travelling from further away (Maryland, west/central PA).

I know why Bryan made the statement, not everyone can get the time off from work to race back to back. Some of us from North travel a long distance for most all raceing. Not trying to start something just saying that Bryan said everyone in Div 1 should call, i under stand that some or most may like that. BUT NOT ALL.

There are enough racers between the New England states, eastern and upstate NY and the eastern half of Canada that will make for good car counts. Lebanon Valley had I believe to be the highest car count of all the division races last year and NE had over 400 cars on a weekend that was over 100 degrees.
Anyone from New England is 600 miles from Virginia and 300+ to Maple Grove. The guys from Nova Scotia are 20 hours from New England! It's great that we are finally getting a few races in our back yard. The only drawback is to make sure you can get in, you need at least 4 grade points and that will require a couple of 300 mile plus trips. This new race should help the car counts at E-town divisional and the Napierville open.
