Stiff or not???
Hey guys new to S/ST and am hoping to make it out in the spring. The car is a 78 Mustang II. My question is should I run a stiff side wall tire or not? I have a 15" rim and can fit up to a 15/32x14.5w tire. I think I will run a Hoosier but am pretty sure the 'w' tire is a soft side wall compared to the others. Car is very light and will weigh right at the min, Engine should make close to 800. Thanks a bunch for any help you guys can toss out!!

Does anyone run stiff sidewall tires in s/st?

Re: Stiff or not???
Unless you're going to run some SG why bother? With your power and a decent Trans cutting a good light on a .500 pro tree should be a cinch.

Re: Stiff or not???
I use the stiff Goodyear, but car weighs 3040 and not as much HP. I carry about 75-80 in the delay box using a Powerglide........... Don't know if this helps or not.
Good luck, it's a blast and addictive. You'll meet a bunch of great people, just bring beer.........lol |
Re: Stiff or not???
I was told by Mickey Thompson rep, that unless you need it to cut a light why bother.

Joe Capri85 - with being at min. weight, having 800HP, and running a 14.5 tire - you would not need a stiff sidewall. In fact, you'd be better with a soft sidewall. Brad Rose - S/ST Div 5 |

the hoosier 32 14.5w 15 is the tire to run! @ 8psi in my 2830lbs car. I can run the car in sg or sst with 750 hp, lights are no problem and 60's are deadly |
Re: Stiff or not???
Thanks a ton guys for the info. I borrowed a pair of old14.5w's and put them on my 15x15 wheels just to see how they would fit. I sat the car on the ground tonight and it looks like they are going to work great. I have no engine or trans in the car but the bottom bars are .6* up and are in the middle holes so I believe I have room to make any adjustments to keep the car level/correct. Thanks again Any other suggestions are welcome.
