New Dragstrip at Montgomery MO...
Saw this news release and wondering if anybody (Bret?) has a take on what prompted this since it's less than 60 miles from St Louis which is now back on the schedule. Sort of surprising to see a track opening given the financial situation many tracks are currently in. This track and the one southwest of Seattle are the only two I've heard of being opened.

Re: New Dragstrip at Montgomery MO...
Since you mentioned Gateway, I'm still a bit confused about the whole thing. Just last week, I see that the ADRL has booked a race there for next year.
Problem is, I live in the St. Louis area and even with keeping an eye peeled have yet to see any announcement that anything is concrete about the track reopening. A while back the new owner was named, but the last stories I saw referred to him negotiating with the various owners of the site along with trying to work out a plan to pay back taxes owed to the State of Ilinois. I've never seen anything that papers were signed or that the project is a go. I guess I'm just surprised that so many people seem to be committing to a track that doesn't seem to be a sure thing yet. As for the new track out I70, I wish them the best in getting it up, running, and successful. |

Re: New Dragstrip at Montgomery MO...
The new Mid America Raceways has been in planning for awhile. Probably almost since the old MAR track in Wentzville, MO closed down in 05'. After attending the Division track operator meeting last January things began to take shape a bit. After many meetings with the city they received approval at the beginning of October to move forward at the current location.
I was surprised at the attendence at the groundbreaking. It was great to see that many racers there to show their support. Even the Kuhlman's, the owners and operators or Tri-State Raceways in Earlville came down to show their support. The shovels really were pretty cool! They have a pretty aggressive target plan to open in early 2012. Track website - http://www.marpark.net/ |
