Black front rims or shiny?

Anyone have an opinion as too whether your reaction time is affected by dark front rims differently than shiny as the sun moves thru the course of the day.

Gary -- gotta take the ice cream machine out of the back of the Buick to improve your reaction times...

Hope all is well in Hopewell Junction

I think this falls into the urban legend category. The way the beams work, a connection is made if and only if the receiver gets the exact signal from the sender. Anything that disrupts this makes the beam register as "off". Even if you had a mirror reflecting from the sender back to the sender, it would still look as broken.

I know sometimes if my opponents rims are shiny it messes with my laser counter and photocell timers...

This stuff goes way back to when we used to have the old photocells on the starting line. We used to call it "shine-back". Back then, if the angle of the sun was just right it would reflect the light back to the photocell and the photocell didn't know your tire was in the beam. If you look at old pictures of cars on the starting line you would notice shoe polish on the side with the sun.

Bingo...gee has it been that long? I recall at Bristol (1986?) the starter had a can of black spray and he would shoot anybody's wheels that were shiny...we are talking Super Trick wheel days so bet he used a case that race.
