Can a slick be patched or plugged?
Has anyone had any good or bad luck trying to patch or plug a slick? I have a screw in one of my tires and it only has one pass on it.
Thank you, Larry |

Yours is a stick car correct? Eric |
Re: Can a slick be patched or plugged?
Both are done all the time and many racers including myself carry and have used a plug kit at the track and in the lanes.

Yes it is a stick car and has bias plies on it.

After the first bun out the plug is melted in, no problem getting 75 runs on a plug.

I have sucsessfully used "patch plugs" on bias ply slicks. These are a combination of a round patch with a plug in the center.

Re: Can a slick be patched or plugged?
Larry, I feel your pain. I have several sets of Hoosier and Mickey Thompson slicks I could send you. My partner wants to keep fresh tires on the car. Imagine that. Do not patch that slick. You have a lot invested in your car to take a chance like that. Think about it?

I had a flat last year at Topeka on a new radial that had 1 pass on it. Put a patch on the inside and it has worked fine. Dyno

Re: Can a slick be patched or plugged?
I had to pug a brand new Hoosier Radial. First time out it went flat. Put a radial plug and was very scared it would come out. Watched it carefully for several races with no problem. Wore the set out.

I used a tube to repair a radial slick. Put one in the other tire even though it didnt need one so they would be the same. The car was already slow so it didnt matter.....LOL. Wore them out after many runs and they never went flat again.
