VP "Sportsman" fuel
 

Anyone ever use this? Good, bad, pros, cons?? It is the first VP option listed on the nhra accepted fuel page. I assume the lowest octane stuff they sell.

I called the warehouse in Pasco and the price was higher than c12. That put an end to my testing it.

I`m not sure if it is the same stuff that VP used to be called "Motorsport red", but when I started running my low compression 5.0 Mustang in Stock, I tried that fuel, since it was cheaper, on the NHRA approved fuel list,and it seemed to be a "waste" putting something like C12 in a small block with less than 9.0-1 compression. Well, I tried several times, and every time I went thru fuel check, it failed. I even bought 5 gallons from a just opened drum at the track, took it directly to fuel check, and it also failed. The fuel check Tech guy said that he had seen several guys with the same problems in fuel check with that fuel. I switched to C12, and have never had another problem at fuel check since. So, if you do decide to try this "Sportsman" fuel, I`d have it tested before putting it your car.

Thanks Rory, guess I will stick with my C10 unleaded stuff, never failed check yet. Was looking for a possible cheaper option for NHRA racing. Race gas slows me down about .05. Car runs its best on Arco 91 octane.

I just bought 2 drums of Sunoco purple and paid $6 per gallon. About half the price of C11 I used before and no performance difference.

Bought the sportsman fuel last year at the gators and it easily passed. Bought it this year at the gators and it passed on Thursday, and was questionable on Friday.

When I try to buy any VP it seems that the next race that I go to they have a different grade available, and you cannot mix them they will flunk it. It is aggravating that there is no uniformity in fuel availability at different tracks. And in ground or above ground tanks will not pass either, regardless of brand. I have heard too many stories about fuel going stale in a drum. I have witnessed fuel passing that sat in the cars tank for over a year. It appears to me that they want you to buy fresh fuel every time out, and it always seems to be VP, not Sunoco

7423 I have been wanting to try the C10 unleaded have been running the C12 in my 5.0 liter stocker. Have you run both these fuels was there any performance differance? I want to run unleaded for O2 sensors and my wide band sensor to keep from killing them. The C10 has a lower octane and was thinking with the lower compression engine should be a performance advantage. PM me if you want.

I have not run C12 but my guess would be slower than the C10. I use the C10 for the same o2 and wideband reasons. I have not priced the Sportsman yet. I believe the "race fuel" requirements that are forced upon us are totally self serving on nhra's part, forcing us to waste more money on something to line their pockets. (I feel the urge to vent, sorry)
