Power Glide Clutches
Is it better to use the forward and reverse clutches that are grooved or smooth?

Re: Power Glide Clutches
Scott, there are low/reverse clutches, high gear clutches, and a low gear band, in a PowerGlide. There are no forward clutches.
That being said, I've had the best luck with Alto Red Eagle clutches, and the blue Kolene treated steels with the "turbulator" holes. In MOST applications, the regular grooved Raybestos clutches work fine. But the Alto stuff is more aggressive, and will hold up in bad situations where other stuff might give up. I prefer the Kevlar band, but many of the aluminum drums on the market are not fully heat treated, and not hard anodized. A Kevlar band will hurt those drums, and they're better off with a softer red band. |
Re: Power Glide Clutches
Sorry, I have a habit of calling the high gear clutches forward clutches. Thanks for the info. Where do you get the steels from?
