The first of the two Sportsman Spectacular events will take place July 8-10 at Maryland International Raceway, followed by a second event October 14-16 at Virginia Motorsports Park that will act as a last-chance qualifier for the Summit Racing Tournament of Champions. The biggest sportsman class race in IHRA history will feature $5,000 to win in each IHRA class and is open to all racers. All IHRA and valid NHRA memberships, licenses and chassis certifications will be accepted. In addition to the big payout, each Sportsman Spectacular will feature national event contingency, an IHRA Ironman and automatic entry into the Summit Racing Tournament of Champions for all winners. There is still more to come, so check back with IHRA.com for more details on the two Sportsman Spectacular events, including important class information and more information on the two biggest sportsman celebrations in IHRA history. |
Re: Sportsman Spectacular....
What is really nice about the sportsman races is what Skooter Peaco stated in the article. Here is the quote.
“As IHRA continues to be a champion of the sportsman competitors, we wanted to do something really special that would reach out to class racers, bracket racers and junior dragster competitors in one big weekend," said Skooter Peaco, VP of Race Operations. "We’ve made a huge commitment by doing the Sportsman Spectaculars and this will be an event that will encompass racers from every nearly every sportsman category and every sanctioning organization. This weekend is all about showcasing sportsman racing with some huge money and a ton of extra benefits on the line. It will be a huge accomplishment to hold one of the special Ironman trophies that will be done for this event and I’m excited to be able to offer this kind of event to sportsman competitors." The two Sportsman Spectacular events are designed to give IHRA sportsman racers a stage all their own while celebrating 40 years as the most sportsman-friendly racing organization in drag racing today. Now I don't know about you, but I believe this is about us racing, no matter how you look at it. Support it, race it, have fun. Ron Ortiz U/SA wish I was there |

Re: Sportsman Spectacular....
If the NHRA racers do not attend this race, they never will race with IHRA. Glad to see IHRA doing this for the sportsman. Zac and Myself plan to attend.
