1969 351W Stocker

Has anyone raced a 1969 Ford 351W in stock? I was told this is not a good combination and would like some imput, good or bad. Thanks, Dyno. Post it on here or email me at dyno5583@aol.com or call 763-227-3366

I looked into that same engine. Rated at 290 hp.
Seems a bit high considering the valve size, cam specs, and other restrictions.

What's the factored HP ? Maybe NHRA would derate it some ?

Just as a comparison, the 1970 351c has much bigger heads, a bigger autolite carb, same compression, same lift cam and is only rated at 10 horsepower more. The 351c is a marginally competetive combination versus the other cars that run g/s and g/sa. The 69-70 boss 302 has a 780 holley carb, bigger mechanical cam, bigger heads, 50 less cubes, more rpm potential, lighter rotating assembly and is rated at 305 horsepower, also as a comparasion. The autolite carb can be made to work, but is a major pain to work with, and would be a good reason to pass on this combo.

A friend of mine Al Nulman raced one of these when they were new. He had a relatively high dollar effort and soon swiched to a 428. He was not happy.

If it was in the 240-250 range, it would be OK. You are right, the 351C is only 10 HP higher @ 300. Anyone else try running one. Thanks, Dyno

Rated to high. I don't think NHRA will ever drop it to 240or 250. But in SS it's rated @ 260....@ 270 it could be an OK combo.
