At the SEMA show last year i was looking at a little race clutch used by "ricers" that make 1000hp in 3000lb cars. It was a billet aluminum diaphram hat and they had sintered iron as well as carbon fibre discs that were wafer thin and about 7" diameter (probably Metric size). The whole setup with a flywheel was lighter than my Soft Lok pressure plate which even has an aluminum pressure ring.

Rob get's $2900 for a standard dual 7" assembly. That's not bad when you consider his 10 single disk assembly sells for $2100.

Keep in mind that the diaghram clutches MAY be lighter in some applications but a diaghram, by design, is basically an on / off switch. Slippage off the line and between gear shifts does not occur. I think in this case it would be better to sacrafice weight in order to keep the engine at it's optimum power band. Agree?
