Cam Journal Size
What's the largest cam journal size that can be used in a production SBC 010 block? Will it go big enough to use a 50 mm cam without problems?
Thanks Scott Tilley |
Re: Cam Journal Size
No. Not enough material in the cam journal area. You can sucessfully bore for the bearings but when recutting for the oil groove, any core shift will run you out of material. A bowtie block is a safer bet (much better investment too) TT

Re: Cam Journal Size
Scott, you can also use a over sized BB chevy babet cam bearing as well. I did it with one of my small blocks and it worked great.

Re: Cam Journal Size
Scott; Bobby's right (I should have elaborated) We even did some with SBF bearings but it was a long time ago (modified eliminator days) when we were trying everything to make more power cuz you could'nt really buy it. Today, the choices are endless and doing a bunch of machine work on an 010 block is a poor investment in my opinion.

Re: Cam Journal Size
Thanks for the info. I'll stick with the stock cam journal size for the 010 blocks.

Re: Cam Journal Size
I think Bill "Grumpy" Jenkins used to do that. Just a thought. Maybe I don't know what I'm talking about but it seems like it.
