IHRA crate motor question about intakes....

I was reading the IHRA rulebook and under intakes it states that any OEM or aftermarket intake that clears the stock unaltered hood is allowed.

The specs for the 514 Ford CM list a casting number M9424 -H429(Victor Intake for a dominator carb)

So which is allowed ?
Any intake, or the one listed in the spec sheet ?

If it clears your hood with the carb (850 CFM for big blocks) using a carb adapter then its OK. The spacer/adapter cannot be over 1 inch thick.

Thanks !
Would you happen to know if the 514 Ford crate engine is for Top Stock only, or can it be used in the regular crate motor classes ?

I havent kept up with the list of approved crate engines for awhile. Its been about 10 years since I was working for them. I believe if you can get on the IHRA site they have a list of approved engines and their current HP ratings....Sorry. Maybe there is an IHRA racer or tech guy like Danny Waters Sr. or Jim Woods reading this that might know? Im sure if you email Danny from one of his postings he will reply right away.

Alan, all the IHRA Tech info you would need should be on there.

514 /600 @ 525 is an approved crate motor class engine. We will not be running Top Stock as a indexed class next year. (unless something has changed that i don't know about )

I got word today that next year Top stock is out.. will not have a class or index. I wouldn't build anything for Top Stock rules. Could end up being a waste of time and money.

Danny, are EFI allowed in crate motor, like a 1991 Ford Mustang with the Ford 340HP/E cam crate motor with EFI?

Thanks, Tom Sr.
