Very few cars ever left the assembly line, due to nefarious goings on among the union workers at the secret GM chicken coop/assembly plant. Seems the union workers were in contract negotiations with the GM brass at the time and decided to sabotage these wild '57's by stealing the little metal squirt cans that were in the glove boxes when the cars rolled off the end of the line. The metal squirt cans were filled with gas, then squirted into each of the Blam Ram Jet air horns so these beasts would start.

Without the squirt cans, the cars couldn't be fired up for final inspection...thus, they couldn't be shipped to the dealer under the special COPO code. The actual COPO order code wasn't numerical (like the 9560/9561's) but was an alphabetic code known only to insiders: F.O.C.O.P.O. (Freekin' Original Corp. Office Production Order).

The dastardly union workers misdeeds were foiled when it was discovered that Chevy had also offered these cars with a 'cold weather' package that included individual choke plates in each of the stacks. These Blam Ram Jets were sold through a dealer network in the upper Midwest and eventually got into the hands of such notable racers as Nerb Nod, Hadtobethere, Grumbly Jergins, The Original 'el Receedo and Tiny.

None of the original cars are known to have survived.

Mike -This option was available well into the Sixties but was outsourced by General Motors and built by the Blam a Ram a Ding Dong Co. if I remember correctly ..............

Yes, I have seen a few of these up here... But what threw me at first glance, is the paint.
This example here must have been "Special Ordered" with the often rumored "camo delete" package.
