A couple of thought about the new cars.
They should throw out all the cars that you couldn't get on the showroom. So 90% of the SS/AH cars-gone! Most of the 64-65 Hemi SS cars-gone. The RO23 67 Hemi Cars-gone. I am not versed that well on other brands, but I'm sure there are some Chevys and Fords that will be gone. Sorta like Barret Jackson selling more big block Corvettes than were made, like anybody knows. Now the Challenger Drag Pak on the other hand, ask Doug Duell for the title on his and where he got the car.
I bought back my 69 Super Bee Six Pack, so I have petitioned NHRA to hit the following cars 30 hp, all 396's that fit in C/SA, all 427, 428 or whatever Fords that fit in C/SA, All LT1's and LS1's (?) and any other car that fits in C/SA and can run over .7 under. Since I put the flat hood and 4 bbl in the car on occasion, I have also petitioned them to hit the multitude of cars that fit in D, E, and F Stock (I think that comes to 132.6 cars) that run the same .7 under. The model for this is the same as Education In American which is to dumb down the smart guys. I will have more as the day goes on for thought while I change a ball joint. Stay tuned. |

You are a funny guy at times - but your comments seem to always make sense
I hope they don't change the rules just to legislate against the Drag Paks Sorry but the blown cars - I am still thinking they need their own class Peace :-) |
Re: A couple of thought about the new cars.
Sure seems to be alot of Mopars on that list. Dougs car was a real off the show room car. But it is not running the engine configuration that came with the car. Or one that is available on the show room.
There would be alot less bitching if the actuall dealer availible cars where in the guide and people where building those for stock. But the real cars are not leagal. |

There has always been a place in NHRA racing for factory built race cars "not intended for highway use" vehicles. That is Super Stock. \ |

Re: A couple of thought about the new cars.
Fact is I could have bought a 1968 Hemi Dart off the showroom floor. Black primer paint and everything. It was a 4 speed car if I remember correctly. There maybe a lot more CJ's and 440-6 packs and 427 Camaros than were produced.....BUT at least these guys "cloned" a production vehicle that was available in the showroom. Any car that is NOT available in the showroom should not be called a stocker........period!!!!!!!
This bastardizing of the rules is exactly how we got to were we are today. The factorys should have a place to race their super special, one off creations. Factory involvement is critical to the on going health of stock eliminator, but to call these DP/CJ's stockers is insane! It seems to me that the term Factory Experimental hits the nail on the head! (or close enough for our purposes). Why does NHRA seem to hate the idea of F/X? The factories rallyed around F/X back in the '60's, why not now? |
Re: A couple of thought about the new cars.
Dear NHRA,
I would like to petiton for 75 horsepower off the SS/AH Hemi. No, not all Hemi's. Just the "King Cuda". I know it was going 8.50s when we bought it but we managed to work out all the kinks and now it goes 9.60s. It is the combination that is the problem...obviously. Thank you, Guys with a lot of money P.S. I can not figure out how to tune three carbs on a stocker. Steve Wann and Chad Loge ran circles around me which means they must be cheating. Look into it. |
Re: A couple of thought about the new cars.
Hey Jeff,
When you petition NHRA, make sure to remind them that the first year they made the High Performance 396 it was rated @425, and that motor had a hydraulic cam, so the stuff out there now should be even higher, hey, whats fair is fair huh? |
