Re: Combination question from the LODRS Medford, OR
Chris,
Jim runs a 1964 289-210 combo rated at 220. Its good combo, you can use aftermarket heads by canfield or afr, but the rating goes up to 230. |

Thanks Ken. I'm looking at a '68 302 combo for my car.

Re: Combination question from the LODRS Medford, OR
Chris, that is my car and explained by Ken it is a 289, but a 1964 Mercury with 1965 C5AE-B steel heads. By having the Mercury motor we can use the Autolite 112 carburetor instead of 108 on mustang. The 68 302 is a combo that I am looking at my self with Holley carburetor.
Mr Bob at NHRA gave all Aluminum heads 10 HP. Well if you are in GT/A class that would be 8X10=80lb but I am in GT/KA which is 13 or 13X10= 130 lbs. It should have been something like you have to add 80 or 100lb for the heads no matter what class? Just my .02 |
Re: Combination question from the LODRS Medford, OR
Jim,
A 68 Mercury with the Holley is what I would use as well. I will probably just stick with the steel heads. My car would fit K also. I think I'd have to move it to J with the alum heads. would have to weigh 3030 in GT/KA, 3045 with the Alum heads in GT/JA. I currently have to weigh 2975 in IHRA K/CM stk. |
