This started at the 2010 Gatornationals by the Div 2 90's srac rep Steve Cohen and he continues to push this.

Re: sportsman council phone call ???
I believe this was geared toward the .90 cars, however it may eventually make it's way to all categories. It seems that we live in an age where all imagined problems must be solved by everyone parting ways with their money. Joe I know this has been debated before and I have no problem at all with someone putting a diaper on their car ....just please don't make it mandatory for the S S/S classes unless it's been shown to be a REAL issue.

As a member of the SRAC and speaking just as a member/racer and not as the Chairmen of the committee, to answer your question “we “(not sure who “we” is) didn’t ask for diapers on all cars. Diapers were suggested on all cars like Leo said above by Steve Cohen the Div 2 SRAC rep for the Super Categories at the SRAC meeting in Gainesville. Naturally anyone including NHRA thought this might be a quick and easy way to bring more safety and less down time to the sport. After a lot of investigation by NHRA , Bob Lang ( which included Bob laying on the ground inspecting over 100 vehicles) and the stock/super stock committee members, the SRAC committee concluded that to make diapers or any form of oil retention devices ( ORD’s) mandatory in stock and super stocker was not feasible without considerable financial hardship to the racers. This was written up and submitted to NHRA back in June. I can’t tell you what their decision is at this point but Graham Light had commented early on he didn’t want any rule that would create a financial hardship on racers. I would not assume this has gone away and if I raced a car where it would be impossible to install and ORD on it without making considerable modifications. I would be showing my SRAC rep and Div Tech Director. That is all I know at this point, Mike Crutchfield was instrumental in preparing all this for NHRA he might have additional comments or knowledge. Kent Hanley D1 SRAC |
