68-72 Nova Combo Question

I am kicking around the idea of starting to build a Nova to run stock with and was wondering what the best combo would be for it big block or small block, stick or auto. Any help would be greatly appericiated.
Thanks
Drew

Re: 68-72 Nova Combo Question

Drew, This very same question came up about a month ago. We beat it to death at that time.
Do a search and it should come up .

Bottom line though, there's plenty of good combos for that car.
You have to decide whether you want to chase, be chased, shift for yourself or not.
Also ,whether you want to spend enough money to survive a heads up run, or hide in a class with very few cars in it.
It all depends on your racing viewpoint and goals .

Drew, I believe Mark would be talking about me and my Nova. Everthing he says is right on the money. A lot of information you are looking for was discussed about a month ago . There are great people on here with plenty of information. You have many options to think about and that will determine the cost.------John

Re: 68-72 Nova Combo Question

Thanks guys, I had searched but didnt find that thread until I actually opened my eyes and looked. I'm thinking im going to start working on this thing sometime after Indy and will make my decisions sometime this winter about which direction im going to go. But I am leaning real hard towards a big block combo just because it will be a bit faster.
Thanks
Drew

Re: 68-72 Nova Combo Question

If I were building it I'd lean towards a 396/375 iron head stick combo. I like the 350/255, but it has been worked hard, and it is in a tough section of the class. As a stick car it's okay, but as an automatic, you better have your feces cohesive.

Re: 68-72 Nova Combo Question

Isn't it still 385 with a stick and 399 with the automatic?
