I saw this and it piqued my interest, especially the record years.... Anyone know anything about it ? Cheers Chris |

I'm pretty sure it was Rusty Canfield's Charger from Div 1. Was always a very quick EF/SA and FF/SA (current NHRA DF/S). Last I know, a gentleman from NJ named Junior Cannonico (sp?) raced it in 2004.

And there was a little matter of some weight under the windshield cowl. A bunch of us at Englishtown in 2005 helped Junior to run .5 under for a class Wally. What put us over the top was removing the rear spoiler and removing a really restrictive aircleaner and jacking up the rear of the hood an inch or so.Junior has a lot of good info on the car. |

It was Rusty Canfields car from PA he bought the car from Paul Rossi.

I ran this car 1st round @ the IHRA Div race @ Quaker-City in 2004. It ran almost the same E.T. as my Silver V/SA car.

Wasn't this car driven by Vic Hobb's when Paul Rossi owned it in California ? I think Paul ran his SS/FA Dodge and Vic drove this car......But my memory might be off...:-)

The car has a 2.2 liter N/A motor, Automatic
Rossi had a few of of them from Chrysler, Not all of them were Shelby cars. |

He said this one started out as a Shelby. And it is carburated. |
Re: Anyone know, remeber or have any stats on this car ?
Definitely Rusty's old car, which Junior later bought. I believe Rusty had told me that it was the first Shelby, which was the rotisserie show car used by Chrysler. Fans would always refute that, because it didn't have the Shelby stitched in the headrest, but as the first car, it didn't have that. A quick search on DRC shows that it typically ran 15.20's when Junior was racing it.
Pic from the 1998 Dutch Classic at Maple Grove http://www.staginglight.com/stocker/rusty.jpg Rusty helped me a great deal when I was first getting started with my similar '85 Turismo. They're both 2.2L carbureted cars (2bbl Holley Weber), and they're a ton of fun to drive. Mine's come a LOOOOONG way, thanks to Billy Nees, from winning in its very first night on track, despite a best of a 20.45... http://www.staginglight.com/stocker/stkatbsd2.jpg ...to today, where it's run a 15.26 @ 88 mph, and won three bracket races. While mine's not a historical car like Rusty's, it too is for sale. Lots of potential, as it's still heavy for the class, and I haven't run go-fast oil in it yet. Tons of fun, just have too many toys already. http://www.staginglight.com/photos/t4sm.jpg Questions: 1) If you're running it as a Shelby or 2.2, can you run it without the spoiler? 2) Anybody know where you can get the lower air dam? Seems to be made of unobtainium. |
