Re: Column Shifters
I am assuming your asking about column shifter for an automatic trans. In the 2010 NHRA rulebook, nothing is mentioned about "no column shifter allowed" so I would assume it is legal. I used a column shifter in my low 12 second street car back in the late 80"s so it is doable. Alot of street racers use a column shifter for that "sleeper" look. A manual transmission are allowed to convert to a floor shifter. With a few exceptions, the IHRA and the NHRA rulebooks are the same. If you don't have a NHRA rulebook, you can down the IHRA rulebook directly from their site.
Depending on what your planning on running, some combos with headers won't work with a column shifter. Other than Mopars, full size GM and Ford cars, anything with a big block would need a floor shifter. |
Re: Column Shifters
How about that pesky positive reverse lock out thing???????????????/

Re: Column Shifters
Bob, The reverse lockout deal doesn't pertain to OEM shifters.
When I converted my Chevy II to a PG, I just bought $20 worth of column shift parts from a guy and the reworked the detents for the manual ,forward 1-2 shift . Easy enough to do with fender well headers. |
