If your rule book gets a little bend in it
 

Is there a master rule book and/or technical guide that would help to straighten out a bent rule? Something that would help a gray area, be focused to black and white. Or is it left up to the discretion of the offical of the day? I know that the cars constantly evolve, and metamorphosize into the next generation of racer. In my opinion, there is a difference between bending/breaking the rules, and to be creative and/or engineer an advantage within the rules. Where is the line for getting thrown out for a year?...is it strickly on engine rules infractions, fuel, weight,...or could it be for the wrong hood, seat, rear housing etc. Is there a line that gets you tossed for the event vs. tossed for the year? Where can you find a list of infractions caught by officials resulting in discipline?
Or is it just the "better to beg for forgivness thing" I hear from the outlaws.

IHRA rule book on page 123 & 124 show rule infractions rated worst to least . the "toss time " is at the descretion of tech director at that time. Hope this helps.

Isnt that part of what racing is all about ? Hell if it isnt why dont we all just lease spec IROC type cars, then it will be 100% all about the driver only.

THAT, that part of the statment is why racing does evolve and things that werent even thought of 20 years ago are allowed and common place.

Because they have a place within the rules.

Now some of the other things ? I dono....but well...if its "within the rules" to me its within the rules, if its "grey" well sounds like something like hood, fuel, diff housing (yes I know some are using alluminum 3rd members, theyre not grey theyre cheating simple.) etc those arent even close to Grey in my book.....those are black and white and if they choose to not follow them and KNOW then theyre cheating simple.

I take satisfaction from beating the other guy by being within the rules, its even sweeter when you beat a cheater granted. But for me if I had to cheat, I quit simple at that point it would have lost all challenge and honest competition, I know I could cheat and win, the trick is being 100% above board and winning. In spite of the others who choose not to.

I was told by NHRA Tech the significant majority of the illegal items they see are in no way blatant cheats, rather errors and misinformation. So some may be "technically cheating" but dont know, if they are aware of it then they are simply cheating in my book.

Id break a guys arm in a heartbeat if I found someone cheating at cards but in cards its pretty hard to accidently cheat, the intent is there if.

Cars,,,,different if its not know its an error not a cheat, if you know and choose to well...

I firmly believe that if they just shot and executed a couple of these violators, the problems would be over.

There o be a "Race Operations" book only available to the Division Directors and Tech Directors and also to the Glendora people that had additional guidance on both operations and tech issues. I do not know if the book is still in use. The book was always in the trailer for further guidance.

He said "a couple"... not all the violators. Kind of like the whole lollygaging thing...do it once and the message will be sent...at least for a little while.
