NHRA Looses another racetrack
Eagle Motorplex in Ashcroft BC has been a longtime NHRA track. Several years ago, NHRA took away their Divisional event and recently cut them out of the Summit ET finals rotation. In an effort to remain viable and due to a lack of support or communication from NHRA, they decided to run 3 AHRA races in a points series with Race City in Calgary. The dates had no conflict with anything NHRA but as suspected NHRA took exception and today finally told the track they would no longer be NHRA sanctioned. As of right now, the track is Outlaw with 3 AHRA events happening in 2010.
The above is the information as I know it and is all second hand so don't shoot me if some isn't 100% correct. This will have no effect on me but may for others on this site. Personally, I think the track did the right thing for their own survival. Time will tell. More info on their website in the Forum section. http://www.eaglemotorplex.com/ |
Re: NHRA Looses another racetrack
Yep signing on with a sanction body who has already lost their own race track and offices seems like a great move

Re: NHRA Looses another racetrack
Does NHRA actually take them seriously as a viable sanctioning body?
If so, NHRA management might be even more inept than previously thought. It's laughable, and a really petty move. |
Re: NHRA Looses another racetrack
This reminds me of hearing they were closing one of the 3 ATM's in ANTARTICA ! It rings the same, "Wow, I didnt know they had a track there" kinda thoughts.....
If the NHRA wasnt doing right by them, then they should move on. How far is BC and this track from the US border ? Dosent travel to Canada now require a passport as well ? Maybe this was part of the reason. Just curious...... Canadian racers are some of the downright most determined group I have met, one drove 5000 Miles to run at Gainesville from some crazy north place in Canada Id never heard of west coastish but waaaayyyy north, and if memory serves right he lived 400 or so miles from the nearest track, nice guy, crazy but nice guy and not one to let anything come in the way of his fun. Please elaborate, not to say I havent been paying attention to the AHRA (I havent) what is this about  |
Re: NHRA Looses another racetrack
The track is about 3 1/2 hours from the border crossing at Sumas. It is a great drive up a hilly canyon, your foot is on the floor most of the time. Yes you do need a pass port to go across here in Washington.

I wonder what the indian sitting on the top of the hill radioing to the starting line when a car goes off the end is going to do? Another one over the cliff.

The location (100 miles from nowhere) does make it a tough sell but it's a good little track and the operators treat you well. |

Re: NHRA Looses another racetrack
The AHRA is a sanction body just like NHRA and IHRA. you cant run an IHRA race at a NHRA track or a NHRA race at an IHRA track, same for AHRA. Other associations like ADRL, AHDRA, AMA dragbike dont sanction tracks so they can hold events at any sanction bodies track under a track rental type agrement. But when AHRA decided to sanction tracks it put them into the place as IHRA is to NHRA.
Also Eagle was planing on running an AHRA reunion tour national events too. |
