Regs for Florida on Used Oil
First, you always have Used Oil, never Waste Oil. Used Oil, Used Oil. Quote Florida DEP: " Used oil destined for reycling is presumed not to be hazardous provided that the total halogen content is less than 1000 parts per million" Believe me, you ain't got near that much haolgen if any in your Used Oil. On the same page there is another section that the Department recognizes containment for small amounts (less than 55 gallons) are basically ok. Label it Used Oil. Store it in your trailer. "which are stored on an oil impermeable surface inside a structure will meet the secondary containment requirements". For those who need specific insturections, bring a 5 gallon can, label it Used Oil, keep it in your trailer and bring it home for recycling. Don't dump it on the ground. One of those Wal-Mart or O'Reilly, Advance etc oil change containers that seal up are probably fine. If you want more, go to FDEP, search Used Oil Generator and read. It's short for those who have no attention span (Brannon etc). Remember Used Oil is what you have. Now that wasn't so bad, was it?

Used Oil is not Hazardous Waste until it is tested and deemed to be Hazardous Waste no matter what state you are in. Different states handle things differently but it is always Used Oil not Hazardous Waste. If you used chlorinated or halogenated brake clean and put even a drop with used oil, one drop of that cleaner is enough to make hundreds of gallons of used oil into Hazardous Waste. That is a fact from experience during my working years. My 2 Cents |
Re: Regs for Florida on Used Oil
I think that it is IMPERATIVE that EVERY racer go online and look up USED OIL GENERATOR regs/rules for their own/home state as well as any state they maybe racing in to familiarize them selves with the requirements set down by the EPA in those states. I noticed looking at a few states that generators of less than X gallons or X pounds USED OIL per month as well as certain occupational categories such as "do it yourselfer" farmers and some other categories are exempt from most of the regulations ,also oily rags and oil dry MAY fall into a category for disposal that is not the same as USED OIL... Also get yourself a good container maybe like a Fuel Jug that is maybe DOT compliant and label it USED OIL so that you have a place to store the USED OIL in your trailer. I
I also noticed that any USED OIL that has been diluted with "Halogenated or Chlorinated "propellants AUTOMATICALLY becomeslabeled as HAZARDOUS OIL not USED OIL!! and is now subject to a whole new set of rules(much strictor as far as storage/handling/transportation)!!!!!!!!!!! My 2 cents on it!!!! Comp 387 |

Re: Regs for Florida on Used Oil
And Bobby (and others), don't mix the used oil with the new beer. That gets you put in prison, but not for dumping.
