What does it take to win class?

How far under do you have to be to win class on a single at a national event?. I've heard rumors, but nothing positive.

DRC originally listed class winners at Phoenix with the statement that some had not run the needed .5 under the index and therefor did not win class. Yesterday morning they revised the class winner count and included singles less than .5 under. Looks like its back to running the index. On another note, there were 40 SS classes a Phoenix. 25 had only one car.

Hi Art,

Like I mentioned in another thread, I spoke with Bruce Bachelder about this early this month, and was told as long as you run your index or quicker, you'll get your Wally. I invited all who don't wish to believe me to contact him...thus it's not a rumor where I'm concerned, cause I went to the source, and got my answer. Hope that helps Art bud.

I guess you were not at or didn't read about Indy last year. If you didn't it's in the archives.

Re: What does it take to win class?

So now that NHRA knocked down the indexes .3 the slower guys now get back.2 to win a Wally. This after the .5 rule was made, I guess to appease the sponsors.Well I guess the sponsor list may just thin out a bit more now.Entries might go up too for the purchase of more Wally's.
It would really be nice if NHRA would put some consistency back into their rules making process.

He ran slower than the index. Is it because he qualified below the index? I am new to class racing, thank you for explaining it to me.Larry

Re: What does it take to win class?

You do not have to run under the Index on the Class run, just at some point during the event. If you're under on the first pass of the weekend, then take the Tree during Class and break, you still win.
