Trailer Insurance

Does anyone have any information/experience on trailer and/or racecar insurance? What is typical coverage and what are people paying for coverage while the trailer sits, and while it is on the road or at the track? Is a trailer and an unregistered racecar (meaning non-insured, non-street vehicle) of serious value covered under homeowners? Does anyone have experience dealing with specific companies or problems?

I know most people say your trailer is covered by the insurance of the truck that is pulling it, but I find it hard to believe a basic insurance coverage is going to pay on a claim where there is a massive loss of a truck, race hauler and racecar, especially when it thought it was only covering a truck.

Evan.....To be covered for the trailer you need seperate insurance for it added to your auto policy usually obtained thru your auto/truck insurance carrier to be safe. It is not expensive and gives you peace of mind. I do not believe your homeowner policy will cover a trailer or race car. Mine does not in Maryland. I have done this in the past for a couple of race cars and still do for the motorcycle trailer. The Harley is tagged and registered thru my auto insurance. If the trailer gets loose and causes an accident you are responsable not to mention the loss. Several collector car insurance companies will insure a race car during transportation to and from the race track and while being stored. I believe Hagerty will do this type coverage and rates and coverage can be obtained at a "Declared" value? I dont know of any who will cover a race car while "On Track" unless your a billionaire and could afford it. Different states have different requirements. Its best to contact your insurance carrier for the state the vehicles are regestered in..

Evan

I have NJ Manufactures Insurance & i called them about trailer insurance, they said i was
covered as long as i'm towing.
I would be covered for liability. As far as the trailer sitting in my driveway, i have to ask them that.

I use Kincaid Insurance 330 834 0003. If i rember he is a racer so he understands the racer needs and can explain how everthing works.I dont think he has a website he use to be in the back of the digger. You basicly have a value for your race operation say 100K and you get a policy for that much. You have to list out the values of things but you get the picture. Some things they can not cover like computers or scooters may be some other things also so ask. I have my car and trailer contents insured what a piece of mind when you leave it some where and get on a plane and fly home for a week or two or the winter months down south waiting for the next season to start. I pay about $700 a year for this it is a cheap piece of mind. Can I PM you I have some question on mustang stockers Vegas was my first race with it.

I believe that the trailer is covered while towing by the truck insurance, but not the contents.

I doubt your would find any insurance on a race vehicle while it is under its own power, even just driving around the pits.

I have my 30' enclosed trailer covered for replacement value through State Farm, my auto insurance company, for $37 every six months. It doesn't cover contents, just the trailer itself.

When I talked to Kincaid at the track, he said the only time the car was NOT insured was when it was actually on the starting line to the end of the pass. I think it was $9.00 per thousand of declared value.........

Re: Trailer Insurance

Thanks everyone, I'm mostly concerned with insurance while in transit, and while the stuff is sitting at my house. For instance, theft, fire, a tree falling on it, etc. I'm not worring about on-track, I know you really can't get insurance for that. I will call Kincaid.

WC, you can PM me about Mustang questions.
