Let me be the first to congratulate the 70-71 Challenger and Cuda Hemi racers, they got their 12HP back off, they are back down to 445 from 457. Since Fred was NOT required to scale, tech, or fuel check after that pass, taking that 12 back off was the right thing for NHRA to do. |

They will not even take 5 horsepower off of a 1970 455 Oldsmobile, but they take 12 off this combo? |

I'm not real well up on the Olds, I've got a friend who has a couple, and he doesn't race them because they aren't fast enough. I'd say the Olds probably does need some HP off, maybe if enough proof is shown to the right people it might get it, I hope so. |
Re: new HP factors
Did Fred only get 12 HP on that deal?
I am not at all sure, but I thought it was more than that (12). I can't remember what his factored HP was before the "hit," but 12 HP is only 96 pounds in A/SA ; I thought he had to add more than that. Or, did I just dream this.....???? |
Re: new HP factors
In less than 18 months that combo (70/ 71 challenger /cuda 426 Hemi) was hit with over 27 hp or 215 IBS. So yes the reduction was deserved. It should have been more. This combo was killed. Even now rated @ 445 the car weights in @ 3730 with driver in A/SA. Don’t know the olds situation so can’t comment.

,i'm pretty sure it was 442hp before Henson deal! I think it got 6 hp 2 times before that from 430 to 436 and to 442...also in a relatively short period! |
Re: new HP factors
What others did you want them to fix?
