Anybody have any history on these guys?
Lloyd Bray & D.G. Gillam from the OK City or Tulsa area. First saw this duo in Wichita late '70s early '80s. At the time, they were running a 68 1/2 Cobra Jet Mustang (I think it may have been one of the original 50 from Ford. I remember looking @ the odometer and it read like 3.5 miles). If I remember right they raced in SS/F with a number of 4406. In the '90s, they were running an '83 Mustang in SS/GT still running a stick. I only saw them race once or twice, but for some reason the duo made an impression on me. Maybe it was the Mustang connection. I was living and breathing them back then. Maybe it was the white jumpsuits they wore while they were @ the track. They were old school before there was old school.
Thanks, Brian |
Re: Anybody have any history on these guys?
I think Lloyd may have passed by now. He was in a nursing home and in really bad shape last I heard. I have seen Don (DG) this past year. Still had the shop going last I heard. He had a later model Mustang with a big engine running a GT class. They are from Bartlesville, which is about 30 miles or so north of Tulsa on hw 75.

Re: Anybody have any history on these guys?
Lloyd has not passed. He is still in a nursing home and has suffered some serious health problems.

Thanks for the correction Mike. I will retract my R.I.P. and throw in some prayers for good measure.

Re: Anybody have any history on these guys?
Well there is enough history in Lloyd's racing past to write a pretty interesting book. Many national records and racing victories. I belive the 68 in the pictures is in a museum in Oklahoma. I do belive he was one of the early Ford sponsored racers and the 68 is one of the 50. Not a nicer person in racing and Ford Blue through and through. Really miss seeing the team at the races.
Best wishes and Prayers to Lloyd. Jeff Colvert SS/G 4456 |
