suspension question

had a look underneath my stocker firebird (1990) and noticed that the stock torque arm is underneath and also just a airbag on the left side.

i know that there more parts that are more up to date. due to a limited budget, what would all of you recommend replacing first.

the torque arm with a aftermarket one or the sway bar with a anti roll bar or a drag race adjustable sway bar.

trying to spend my wisely

thanks so much

Re: suspension question

the torque arm hooks to the back of the tranny. Hard on tranny mounts. My everyday 94 Firebird v-6 has broke 3 in the last 3 years. And I drive like a grandpa. Oh, I am a grandpa.

Kevin,

Several good companies out there for torque arms, or you can fab one. S&W has upgraded their arm, and lot of people running it. They also pay contingency $.

Get rid of the air bags... they are very sensitive to the settings to stay consistant, and always a risk of leaking - popping. Go to adjustable shocks. I put the QA1's on my car. I left the bag in, just let all the air out... Lot of people also use the Rancho shocks that Calvert sells with the Cal Trac set up. Good heavy duty shock, adjust well, and cheap. Designed for trucks, and hardly ever hear of anyone having trouble with them. You can get the part number off Calverts web site, and order on line from lots of places a little cheaper.

Good luck.

Ken
