Another Ford in GT/AA

#1 qualifier, #1515 GT/AA Jeff Lawrence, Qougue NY, '88 Mustang 9.153 off a 10.40 index -1.247 under. This Ford must be a pretty stout piece! Anyone know what engine combination he is using? Thanks in advance, Don Jackson

Jeff has been running his ride in GT/AA for years, it is definently a nice piece. He recently updated the body 88 Saleen spec's this year. Anyways, please guys don't get Jeff any horsepower, we rarely have anything to brag about in the Ford camp let alone a Cleveland no less.

Great Job Jeff, keep representing the lone loss Cleveland Combo!

Those Clevelands are killer engines. The head flow and the small cubic inches makes it a super combo. We watch our Ford buddy win every night against the SBC's at Indy 5/8 Oval for years. Jr Blair. Steve Blair his son drives now. He used to match race a 427 SOHC 57 T-Bird against Bob Glidden in the old days. They win in the Truck Series the last few years.

I wouldn't call 285 factory hp and 324 NHRA horsepower a low rating. The engine Jeff is running is an Closed Chamber combo that came in 71 Torino GT's, Mach 1's, Mustangs, Torino Cobra's etc...... compression ratio is 10.7 for the 285/324 versus 11.0 for the 330/330hp Boss.

The Holley and alum hi-rise intake came to be because it is what came OEM on the rear engined Italian car Ford used to import and sell called a "PANTERA" which were 351 Cleveland powered. It was deemed legal sometime around 1974 when I was working tech with NHRA. NO I didnt have anything to do with it although I did inform Tex Miller of the allowable change back then when he was still running the Torino.
