What happened at Bristol???

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I hope this isn't the start of the slippery slope

05/15/2009 - 05/17/2009 - NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals

Category Quota Entries % Full
Top Fuel Dragster 24 16 66.7%

Fuel Funny Car 24 17 70.8%

Pro Stock 26 23 88.5%

Super Stock 80 50 62.5%

Stock Eliminator 80 41 51.3%

Super Comp 90 78 86.7%

Super Gas 90 53 58.9%

Event Total 414 278 67.1%

Entries closed at 1:00 PM today and this looks like the total amount of entries.

Only 91 spots out of a possible 160 in Stock & Super Stock are filled.

131 of the 180 possible 8.90 & 9.90 entries, now that's the real scary part

Re: What happened at Bristol???

They put a Div 3 LODRS race on the same weekend in Norwalk, OH. Proably pulled 20 or so cars per sportsman category away from Bristol.IMO

Re: What happened at Bristol???

There is also a Division 4 Lucas event at Houston this weekend.
That will keep some of the Division 4 cars away also.
Bad Scheduling !
My 2 Cents

Re: What happened at Bristol???

I am really surprised that there are that many Stock and Super Stockers entered at Bristol.I can think of at least 10 reasons why I expected less cars.In no particular order:

1) Norwalk is a big Division 3 race
2) There are no class eliminations in either Stock or Super Stock
3) Bristol is a "slow" track
4) The entry fees have been raised
5) The contingency awards are drastically reduced
6) The economy is not very good (High Unemployment)
7) Gas prices are really starting to climb again!
8) Division 4 race in Houston
9) The AHFS needs rehab
10) It will probably rain

Re: What happened at Bristol & Topeka???

They have been at 1 grade point for a week, running class in Stock & Super Stock and entries close in less then 2 weeks???

05/29/2009 - 05/31/2009 - O`Reilly NHRA Summer Nationals

Category Quota Entries % Full
Top Fuel Dragster 24 14 58.3%

Fuel Funny Car 24 14 58.3%

Pro Stock 26 25 96.2%

Top Alcohol Dragster 24 20 83.3%

Top Alcohol Funny Car 24 19 79.2%

Super Gas 100 37 37.0%

Super Street 60 37 61.7%

Event Total 692 322 46.5%

51 out of a possible 260 entries in Stock & Super Stock

147 out of 260 possible entries in the 90 eliminators

322 possible entries out a possible 692 leaves it at 24 entries short of 50% of entries against the quota?

Still a scheduling problem?

Re: What happened at Bristol???

Certain events due to scheduling, geography or whatever will show NHRA their value to the racers. This is how it happens and the schedule gets trimmed. No racers, no spectators, no money, NO race next time. The pros can support the event for a while but.... entries are money.

Re: What happened at Bristol???

I wouldn't hazard a guess as to where the Topeka entry total will end up, but Bristol was at 197 a week ago. Seems like more and more racers are waiting until the last minute to spend their money and/or make their final decision as to whether or not to go.
