Re: Kids ear muffs ?
Go to a sporting goods store that sells gun supplies, That's where I found them for my granddaughters.

Billy,
We have bought them at the track, LV used to sell them for kids, I think NE has them also. My son is 10 and he still uses them for the loud cars. Nobody makes a good one for infants, we have used wax plugs and the foam ones will work. See you Sunday, George |

I like the ones that gun places sell. Actually the last set I bought for my son were like 13.00 at Wal Mart.

Re: Kids ear muffs ?
Billy,,,, Just promise us please,,Don't ever take a stroller down to the staging lanes! I saw a very stupid woman many years ago pushing one between the cars when the call went out for everyone to move on up. When all those cars fired up, I'll never forget how that baby jumped, having the crap scared out of it from the noise, not to mention the smoke and fumes forced upon it. Needless to say "mom" got a major *** chewing from a bunch of people who witnessed that. These kids are defenseless you know.
Take care,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Danny Durham,, proud dad and grandpa. |

Re: Kids ear muffs ?
I never had kids but I can't believe how stupid some parents are at the track. Racers usually get it but I've seen 20 min old babies strapped to their mothers with some foam plugs stuffed into their kids ears sideways while they are standing as close to the start line as possible. Not doing a bit of good not to mention the rest of the potential harm. Same thing goes for pets. If you have to bring either why subject them to the hazzards.

Re: Kids ear muffs ?
The Peltor Shotgunner model works great. It gives a 21db reduction, is lightweight enough for kids to wear for extended periods of time, isn't as bulky as many and is adjustable enough for even really young kids to wear. If you use these with some decent silicone/foam ear canal plugs, it's a good combo of decibel reduction while still being able to hear.....w/o the hassles of electronics. They fold down to a compact size.
Sound levels above 85db is where hearing damage starts to occur, either from repetitive lower end noises or single events. Ear plugs alone DO NOT do a good enough job. The best foam plugs will not give you full-value db reduction, despite their ratings. A good rule of thumb for foam plugs is that you'll get a real-world reduction of 1/2 of the rating. That's because up to 40% of the db levels that are transmitted to the internal auditory canals (where the acoustic nerves live) are transfered by attenuation through the bones of the skull...more specifically the mastoid bones (the 'bumps' you feel right behind your ears). These bones are not solid...they're a matrix of bone and air cells and are a big part of how the acoustic nerves 'hear' sounds. Bottom line: you need to have some coverage of this part by a decent pair of muffs. If your ears 'ring' after an exposure to high db levels...you've injured the acoustic nerves. Here's a link to the Peltor Shotgunner model..almost any decently stocked shooting supply store will have these. http://www.midwayusa.com/viewproduct...tnumber=719119 |
Re: Kids ear muffs ?
These are used a lot over here in Sweden, and I found a distributor for them in the US as well:

Re: Kids ear muffs ?
When my son was very little (2-3 years old) I took him to the Gatornats(he HAD to go with Dad) used the Pelitor muffs and silicone swimmer earplugs.
