Rev limiter on the brake pedal
I am finishing up my new stocker and would like to know how the low side rev limiter is being activated by the brake pedal. I have heard using a brake light activation switch functions well, any other application ideas? The biggest question is, How do you not acitvate the rev limiter any other time you are pushing hard on the brake pedal, ie, finish line etc. This seems like a concern, maybe its not. Please offer suggestions of what system works well. Thanks.

Re: Rev limiter on the brake pedal
I have used a brake light switch plumbed into the rear brake line at the master cylinder.
From there you wire in a NC (Normally Closed) micro switch on the shifter that opens when you shift to second gear. Once the circuit is open your button on the brake pedal should be dead. Basically you want the switch to deactivate (cut power to) the button on the pedal after you shift. I think some shifter companies are equipped with a micro switch or drilled to accommodate them. Confused yet? I have that effect on people! Chuck |

Re: Rev limiter on the brake pedal
I had a real nice fool proof set up one time with a switch on the shifter and a brake pressure switch, I was told to remove all of it at tech right under the tech guys nose or "go home". "One switch" was his answer.
But who knows what the rules will be at your next tech lane experience,,,,,,,,,Good Luck. |
Re: Rev limiter on the brake pedal
Jimbo, What do you think someone would say ,if you stepped onthe brake near the finish line ,and they heard the rev limiter come on?

Re: Rev limiter on the brake pedal
Mark,
I guess it would depend on who that someone was, and who said they didn't hear it. |
Re: Rev limiter on the brake pedal
I have mine wired identical to Mark's (micro switch located at the back of the shifter to open the two step switch circuit) except the two step switch is connected to the factory brake light switch. It has been wired that way for a really looooooong time......I hope I don't run into an over zealous tech man....the wiring in my car is exposed, so I could show a tech man how it works.

Re: Rev limiter on the brake pedal
To activate the rev limitter I have always used a micro switch behind the pedal arm. It has worked flawlessly and reacts great. I have used a switch I flip at the top end to disable the 2-step but using the micro switch on the shifter is probably better, one less thing to remember to do.
