Harmonic Balancer

Have any of you guys heard of a PBM Performance Products harmonic balancers?

What kind of quality are they and are they SFI certified?

nj,

PBM does have a line of SFI dampers. I am pretty sure they are the same as the Professional Products ones. They seem to be pretty nicely made, but appearances are not everything. I have sold quite a few of the street versions and a couple of the SFI ones, have not heard of any issues. Even though I am a PBM dealer, I would personally be using an ATI on a race engine. Here is a link to thier web site. If you need a price on something let me know.

The PBM SFI approved balancers I have seen are not Professional Products balancers. The ones I have seen are made by PowerBond. They are not bad for an inexpensive balancer. I would not use one on a true quality race engine. I use ATI on real race engines.

Thanks for the input. The reason I ask is the race car my brother and I bought has one on it and personally, I've never heard of them. I was filling out our tech card and they ask for the balancer make and when I looked the PBM was what we had. The engine is fairly fresh and was built by a well known engine builder. I cannot believe he would use this lower end product because the engine has all good stuff in it. What may have happend was the previous owner may have taken a good unit off and replaced it with a cheapie when he sold the car.

Professional Products balancers are those goofy red and black ones with rivets. I usually run away when I see one of those. Fast.

I had two of these Professional Products balancer's lose the ring that's riveted on, during chassis dyno pulls it was spectacular having this ring bouncing off the shop wall's. DO NOT BUY THESE BALANCERS!!!!!! or any cheap balancer, you get what you pay for! Shawn

Re: Harmonic Balancer

My brother and I decided to replace the PBM Performance Products balancer that we currently have on the car. Our engine has all good stuff in it and I do not want to run the risk of doing any major damage. What bothers me about the whole deal is I looked extensively on the internet and I could not find any solid information regarding it's manufacture and engineering history.
The next question is, what do you recommend as far as a quality balancer? As you can read I have 2 votes for the ATI. Our engine is a 402 CI BB Chevrolet.

Thanks

PBM is Erson's parent company.
Their balancers are repackaged Power Pond units which are high quality made in Australia.
Both SFI and non SFI street balancers are offered.

I had an import balancer come apart on me. It bent the nose of the crank, wacked the pan and luck for me it went out and didn't hit a tire at 141mph. ATI from that point on.
