Stocker suspension question

I have talked to 3 people and got 3 different answers. Can I or can I not cut the floor to put the 2x3 Frame connector on a unibody. Thanks for the responses in advance.

Absolutely you can. All my cars have been done like that since the 80's, or was that the 70's. Can't remember, but a long time ago, courtesy of Vaughn, Sonny, and your dad.

Herb,

I'm going to assume you're referring to a stocker, right? I'm reading from the IHRA rulebook (because that's what's in front of me, not sure where the NHRA book is, lol).

It states: "Round tubing may be used to tie front and rear subframes together and join subframe in straight line extending through car floor, with floor completely welded to member." Keyword being MAY, meaning you can use round or box material. Says to me, you can run the material through the floor, just needs to be completely welded, so the floor of the vehicle is resealed.

This is how I intend to do my crate motor Firebird, when we tie the frames on it.

I'm not going to post on here how my dad wanted to do it, but lets just say it's an old secret of his. If you look at stuff they did 40 years ago it will amaze you. Back then you couldnt buy any of this stuff it was all in the mind.

Now I'm curious. What is the third option you were told?

1. Yes with anything

2. No bolt on only.

3. You couldnt go through the floor with square tubing,2x2 or 2x3, you could only go through the floor with round tubing.

The bottom line is this is the first real stocker we have had. This car is a crate motor car now but will be a regular stocker by next year. I/SA or so. SHould be a very good car with the combo we are going to run we just want to tie this thing togather right. We spent about 20 hours on the front end last week and you can tell by the pictures taken from behind with the wheels 8 inches in the air there is ZERO tow in or out wtih the tires. We actually picked the car up 2mph by lining the front end. This isnt the first time, there was a K/SA my dad lined the front end up on with the racer on his way to Indy. The car ran 2.5 mph faster getting the bump steer down to ZERO. Most cars the wheels out as it comes up. 20 hours is a long time to work out a front end but it was worth it.
