10% pay cut for NHRA employees?
DRO is reporting that NHRA had an emergency meeting the other day with the decree that NHRA employees will be getting a 10% pay cut, and possibly more for upper managment! ......While I'd be inclined to say some of the upper managment is overpaid, if this goes down to the worker bee level, I'd be expecting either personell shortages at the upcoming events, or worse, those that are still working to have a poor attitude. .....While there are some really good people out there working the parking and the lanes, they are already working for peanuts, compared to what the upper mgmt. is paying themselves . .....I'd guess any chance of our seeing a purse increase in the Sportsman ranks , just went out the window! .....Tom

The part timers that work the track, lanes, etc all work for minimum wage. How are they going to cut them
10%? Make them buy a ticket and pay parking? |
Re: 10% pay cut for NHRA employees?
That's a real shame for the regularary hour wage earner that works for NHRA and shame on the NHRA's upper management. NHRA's management doesn't seem to get it, you need as many cars as posibble now to fill the count so that there is more money rolling in, instead they raise the entry fee and increase pitpasses for the crew members. If you do the math, the car count in stock eliminator alone is down 30% from last year at Bradenton. If you figure that the car count would be close to last years, they would have 17 more cars @ $140 = $2380.00 more income.
I personally could easilly afford to pack up and go to Bradenton, but I drew a line in the sand and will not cross it at this point. I can't see an entry fee of $160.00 to race for $1000.00. It goes against my grain and I will sit it out until NHRA sees the light. I will just take my business to races that are willing to some what thank the racers for showing up at their gate. 54 @ 140 = 7560 would be smart to lower entry 37 @ 160 = 5630 Dumb Asses! Re: 10% pay cut for NHRA employees?
I've only dealt with Div 1 NHRA field employees and as a whole they are top flight and don't deserve to have their pay cut in light of the the pay they receive now and the hours they put in.There are times when we're having our dinners and parties and some of them are still working. This is a case where upper management should bite the bullet.Maybe they can do with a few less Starbucks during the week.
Everybody should go to NHRA@NHRA.com and tell them what we think. Ed F. |

I would not like to see the field employees take a pay cut. There may be fewer NHRA employees in 2009, and fewer racers, as well.

I couldn't agree with you more, because as I (in a thread highlighted by Pat Joffrion) read that Div. 4's entry fees were reduced $5.00 to either $140.00 or $145.00 (Pat help me out on this will ya...), and later find out that in Div. 5 their entry fees are staying at last years amount (of $155.00?, and possibly $80.00 for their National Open races), I check out Div. 7's entry fees to see that we're going to have to pay $165.00 for both our divisionals, and National Opens??? Now granted that was also last years amount out here, but the year before it was $155.00, and if I'm not mistaken our national opens were not the equal (entry fee wise) of our divisionals!!! With the economy in the shape it is, and the lower car counts that our Fallon, Nv. divisional event enjoyed (amongst others) last year, one would hope that we racers would get a break as well??? I would rather see the cuts come from our entry fees, than their pay as well....As one well known ex-President once said "I feel your pain"!!! |
Re: 10% pay cut for NHRA employees?
Minimum wage worker bee reporting in....
I think those of us that work for minimum wage do so for the love of the sport and people more than anything else. Yes NHRA pays all our travel expenses, and we get a meals per diem & the posted state minimun wage where we are working at any given race. A lot of us, myself included, have also purchased our own safety equipment because NHRA cannot provide adequate and safe equipment to everyone who works. Last year I worked I believe 6 national events, including the US Nationals marathon. I think my W-2 said I made $2800 total. I spent $400 of my own money on a helmet and scrounged some free gloves because NHRA could not provide me with safe equipment that properly fit. So many people say it is BS that I had to buy some of my own equipment. But honestly I don't mind. My "payment" is from the racers...some of them are pros, but mostly you sportsmen, many of which I am proud to have as freinds as well, who thank me and the other peons for what we do every day. |
