Trans Cooler Type

Whats your opinion on trans cooler type ?

The standard cooler type , B&M, etc, rows of tubes and fins..

The standard type with a fan..

The cannister style that holds a large amount...

FYI I have the standard type, with the threaded ends and braided lines...no slip on lines for me...

The biggest cooler you can fit with tubes so you can flush them. I fan is a must

Dave ,I've got a PermaCool cooler with the fan, which is a large tube ,flushable type, and a 4 quart accumulator. ....Hot lapping last year in the heat, running hi gear thru the stop, I rarely came back over 180 deg. and cooled down quickly. and my cooler is in the back of the car,out of the direct air flow. .....The biggest benefit is the 4 extra quarts of fluid, allowing greater dissipation of the heat, over a larger volume .....Tom

I had a frame mount heat sink type that never worked very well...have since put a B&M Super Cooler (w/fan) and no more issues;)

Re: Trans Cooler Type

My plan is to add a fan to my cooler (I already have a decent cooler with screw in AN fittings and braided line)..

So question for the guys running a fan, how is yours controlled ? By a toggle switch or thermostat ?

If by a thermostat, where are you taking the temp reading to run it....

Re: Trans Cooler Type

Dave , I control mine manually, and moniter the temp in the trans pan. ......I run the fan for 5-10 min, and fire up the car and put it in gear for a min. or so to circulate the fluid. ......Temp usually drops 20-30 degrees....The smart thing to do is run the fan while the car is on the run and the return road ,as the hot fluid is circulating thru the system ,it'l keep the temp from rising as fast, and you will lower the temp quicker. ....The more fluid you have the easier it is to keep it cool. ..........Tom

Thanks Tom that was my thought too...since running the fan on the cooler with no fluild circulating wouldnt make alot of diff....I think I'll just hook it to a switch and watch it...my temp gauge is int he pan too...
