IHRA Take on Runner Volumes
What is IHRA's take on cylinder head runner volumes?

Re: IHRA Take on Runner Volumes
As far as I can tell, it's always been the tech person's "call" based on his interpretation and that of the head tech person, apparently like in NHRA. IHRA usually follows NHRA's rules with this to minimize any problems with cross-over racers. I would guess that they would continue to do that when any new head rules come out.

Re: IHRA Take on Runner Volumes
So Myron, what have they(IHRA) done on the Crate motor engines about establishing runner volumes?

Re: IHRA Take on Runner Volumes
Woodro I'd say IHRA will make no changes. A couple years ago when the piston rules were changed up IHRA went with stock top on the piston to make the rules more simple.

Re: IHRA Take on Runner Volumes
XTECH man what is that suppose to mean. One thing about it there are some racers that love ratting out other racers on certain things some which are stupid. I love it when a racers starts a conversation knowing he is going to tell the tech guy everything that is said. What do you racers think about that?

As far as the Mopar combos, many, but not all, of the accepted crate motor heads are also used in OEM applications that NHRA and IHRA should have specs for, including runner volumes for SS. So IHRA should use whatever Stock volumes NHRA comes up with. I don't know what GM or Ford crate motor heads can also be found in OEM production cars. I run the 360/300hp Commando (shaft mounted rockers) which IHRA allows any production 340 or 360 head which was originally available with 1.88" intakes. The original crate motors came with 308 production heads and later Mopar had 576 heads as over-the-counter replacements. But the 576 heads were discontinued several years ago. I believe any of the same heads with 2.02" valves installed, as well as the original 894 X-heads, are legal on the 360/360hp version. But we'll just have to wait and see what NHRA comes up with and if IHRA will adopt the findings. Like in NHRA, IHRA has been making judgement calls on their Stock heads. |
